Saginaw Valley 989 Travel Lacrosse is a low-cost (non-profit) and local option for boys lacrosse players of all levels of skill and experience in Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, and neighboring locales.

Registration for the Lapeer Sixes high school team is currently disabled because the roster is full at the 12-player maximum. If someone drops out, we'll re-open registration.

Message from Lapeer organizers:

Here are the two fields. You can have your parents park at the P and walk in. There will be a $4 charge per adult for entry cash or venmo. We are trying to bring in food to buy as well. We will have a water boy set up on the turf field so the players gave access to water. There are porta johns on site. Please bring chairs as there are no bleachers. In the spirit of keeping it light we wont keep score officially but coaches are welcome to do so together if they wish. I should be able to have officials but just in case please have a coach avail to jump in and assist if needed. You can set up a tent anywhere near the fields you would like, just recommend not directly behind the goals. See you in the AM 

Events

Because many of the summer tournaments fill up well in advance of when most of our players typically register to play with 989, in the past we have registered for events early and assumed that we'd eventually have enough players register to play to fill out the rosters. However, in recent years that assumption has often not matched reality, and we have struggled to field teams with sufficient numbers for most events. In several cases we've had to invite non-paying guest players to fill out the rosters to allow us to have enough players to play...which resulted in our income not matching our expenses...for example, losing a significant sum of money during the summer and fall of 2025. This is not sustainable and, therefore, we're changing our process. We will have a high school varsity team at the Great Lax Bay Saginaw tournament in June (June 20-21). We won't have other teams at the Saginaw tourney because it sells out in Jan or Feb...long before we could be confident that we'd have enough players. We will also participate in other playdays and other tourneys in Michigan during the summer if we have enough players who commit to play them...but we won't register for those events until we know we have enough players.

The registration link at the bottom of this page will allow you to register for summer practices/training ($50 for the summer...~ 12+ practices) and also to indicate which events you think you'd be interested in and available to play. Depending on the level of interest for the different events, players will be invited to register separately for each individual event with an a la carte cost to cover the registration expense for that event.

• Elite Rosters: more-skilled players selected based on player evaluations 
• Standard Rosters: open to all players

Registration

All players and coaches are required to have valid USA Lacrosse memberships before registering (join USA Lacrosse here: LINK). There are various benefits that come with US Lacrosse membership, but in this context the most important is that the liability insurance that we receive via US Lacrosse is contingent upon all players and coaches having valid US Lacrosse memberships.

Practices

Summer practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8 PM at Dow High School. Practice will be either on the turf (when it is available) or on the grass inside the track. The first practice will be on Tuesday June 2.

The first few practices of the summer will be used for player evaluations to place players on Elite and Standard rosters.

Currently planned practice dates (might change due to weather or other constraints):

• June 2, 9, 11, 17, 18, 23, 25
• July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30

Uniforms

Every player must have a uniform set of matching blue and white reversible jersey and shorts to wear during the events. We'll use the same uniform design in future years, so it's an investment of sorts...you'll be able to wear it for future years as long as it still fits. The cost is $30 for the jersey and $25 for the shorts.

• If you have a 989 uniform from a previous year that fits, you may use it again this year and pay no uniform fees when you register .
• If you do not have a uniform from a previous year or need a different size, you will need to order a uniform.
• A shooter shirt is also available for sale but is not required.
• If you purchase a 3-piece kit (jersey, shorts, and shooter), you will receive them at a discounted price.

Fees and Payments

The team registration fees for summer tournaments are significantly higher than similar spring tourneys, so our fees for summer lax are necessarily higher to allow us to break even. However, we are committed to keeping fees as low as possible to make summer lacrosse accessible to as many as we can. For-profit club teams charge $600, $1200, even $2000 for a summer season. We view our offering as an excellent value relative to other summer options.

The base fee will be $50 and will cover all summer practices. There will be additional a la carte fees for players invited to participate in the various tourneys and events.
